February 2nd
: Terrance had a big day of youth season duck hunting and birthday parties, so I
hooked up his boat and headed down to the "big pond" on Saturday. My goal was to try to get on a
trap bite and eliminate water. Unfortunately, I only caught 1 fish on a trap - but boy did I ever
eliminate water. I did throw the new Lew's BB1 reel and man was I impressed. If you love to crank
this is the reel for you. It's silky smooth and casts like a rocket launcher.......

February 3rd:
The day dawned cold and there was a thick frost on Terrance's boat. When our
number was called, we headed straight for one of Terrance's favorite banks in the mid-lake area.
Within minutes of arrival, Terrance connected with a Jackall Muscle 7+ crank. It was a skinny
13-incher, but hay we were on the board. Anyway, Terrance got on a hot streak and connected with
3 more keepers in the next hour. They were all on the small side, but after my practice neither one
of us were complaining. About 10:00 AM, we were heading into a pocket and I finally got in on the
action by nailing a nice 3.5 pounder on the Muscle. We had 5, but new there was a lot of work to be
done to try to get in check range. We made it to the back of the pocket and we both started casting
the Jackall Doozer around. If you've followed our site through the years, then you probably know
how fond of this giant trap we are. The Doozer catches pigs!!! Anyways, I set the hook on another
fish and could tell it was a good one. We got the 5-pounder in the boat and things were looking
up!!! It was only 10:30 AM and we had a solid foundation in the well!!!. Unfortunately, we hit a cold
snap. Finally, at 2:40 PM, Terrance connected with our final keeper in Crystal, a fish that would give
us about a pound cull. Off to the weigh-in we went........

Keeper Count:

Jackall Muscle 7+ crankbait (Red): 6 keepers
Jackall Doozer Lipless Crankbait (Red): 1 keeper

Lew's BB1  5.1:1 reel, Dobyns 705 CBMF Glass Rod, 12 pound Sunline Super Natural Monofilament
Doozer: Lew's Tournament 5.4:1 reel, Dobyns Champion 765 Cb Glass, 20 pound Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon

Final Thoughts:

A day that turned out much better than anticipated. Terrance's fish fired and we were able to get a
couple of big bites. The next one is at Hamilton, so it will be a totally different ball game........

See Ya' on the Flip Side,

Frank Leone
