"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company
Tournament: Get5Bass Spring Open
                  March 23rd, 2013
                  Lake Dardanelle

Anglers: Frank Leone and Terrance Narveson
          16th place - 5 bass - 16.70 pounds

I got to slip out on Friday afternoon. I really just wanted to check a few places for water
temperature and clarity. I couldn't resist making a few casts. The bite was on big time!!! I caught 9
keepers in three hours. Almost everywhere I stopped I got bit. I knew Saturday was going to be a slug

Tournament: We got everyone launched and headed to our starting location, a shallow flat covered
with coontail. With no wind, we found no takers for our Jackall Doozers. We split and headed to a bank
in the bayou where I caught a couple in practice. I broke the ice with a 14-incher on a vibrating jig/Big
Bite Baits Cane Thumper Combo. I didn't really want to put this fish in the well, but hey it was a start.
With no wind blowing, I decided to try a jig on one of my favorite banks. On the first pass, we catch 4
keepers on a Jewel TJ Jig. We had 5, but they only went around 11 pounds. We knew we had to cull
everything in the well!!! We then proceeded to hit another jig bank. We got all the way to the end of the
pass and a good one thumps my jig. We got her in the boat and made a good cull. By now the wind
was starting to blow so we headed to our starting location. We started chunking the Doozer and TN/70s
around. We almost got to the end of the pass and I finally got one to bite. It was our best fish of the
day, a fish that probably was close to 4-pounds. We hit a little lull and decided to hit another location.
We started chucking vibrating jigs around and I immediately caught a fatty in the 3 range. We made
another pass through this location and I caught another fat one in the 3 range. We were culling, but we
knew we needed a couple "Heads" over 5 to get into contention. We then had a decision to make. Do
we go to a location where I know some big ones live that I didn't hit in practice, or head to a couple
areas where I caught a couple over 4 in practice? We decided to hit the practice spots. It was probably
a bad decision. We caught 6 or 7 more keepers but never made another cull.... We knew we were

Final Thoughts:
A fun day on the water, but we really needed a couple of 5's to get into contention.
The fish are so fat right now on Dardanelle that it's hard to judge their weight! It's going to be a fun

See ya' on the flip side....
