August 9th, 2020
Anglers: Frank Leone - 4th place - 5 bass - 12.71 pounds - $120.00
Practice: No practice for this one...
Tournament: After last week's struggle, I really had no idea what was in store for this week. The flow was
up between 20,000 and 30,000 cfs for a few days, so I figured the fish may be positioned better upriver. I
decided to give the upriver stuff another week before bailing on it, so when I got everyone taken off, I
headed that way. The first stop was productive, as I boated a 3-pounder and a 2.5-pounder quickly. I tried
not to get too fired up, because I had a great start last week that crashed and burned... Didn't want a
repeat performance of that. Anyway, I noticed a lot of fish activity about a quarter mile down from the first
stop, so I decided to investigate. First cast and a good Kentucky eats my crankbait. I put fat Joe in the well
and on the next cast catch a heavy 3. Things were rolling and it was only 7:15 AM! Headed to the next stop
and was disappointed by the lack of activity. I was about to bail when fish start busting about 60 yards
down the bank. I hightailed it over there and was surprised when nothing took my crankbait or topwater. I
decided to try the jig and doink, a 2-pounder eats it. 5 in the well by 7:30 AM... Felt real good after last
week. The rest of the day was uneventful, as the 4 keepers I caught the rest of the day didn't cull anything
out of the well. I figured I was somewhere in the 11, maybe 12 pound range and would probably end up
without a check...
7 keepers: Spro Fat Papa 55 SB (Denali Lithium 7' M CB Rod; 14-pound Sunline Crank FC)
1 Keeper: Leone's Swimhead Jig by Rope (Denali Lithium 7'4 MH; 16-pound Sunline Sniper FC)
1 Keeper: Big Bite Baits B2 10" Worm (Denali Lithium 7'4 H; 16-pound Sunline Sniper FC)
Final Thoughts: A good day on the water. Didn't lose any fish and cashed a check. I'll take it!
See ya' on the flip side....
